“Thrilling quad bikes combined with an awesome track equals an unforgettable experience” Ian Wright
Over the past 10 years Quad bikes have become extremely popular, with more and more clubs and tracks opening in the UK, to enable you to fully enjoy what these machines were truly made for….Fun!
Quad biking started with the simple hiring of a quad bike at the beach or on private land and quickly moved on over the years with quad bikes becoming more available to everyone.
Places to use your Quad bike have also become more widespread and are open to everyone from the novice to professional racer.
For example you could become a member of a Quad bike club, race your Quad bike, go on a quad bike holiday or just free ride your quad bike on one of the many open tracks around the UK.
Quad bikes are now also available to purchase for home use or for work including quad bikes for farm use or those used to get around larger areas of private land.
More and more people are buying quad bikes, setting up quad tracks and having local quad bike races and competitions.
Quad bike engines start from 49cc all the way up to racing 500 cc and there are even some crazy modified 1000 cc quad bikes available out there.
Quad bike Racing
If you’re not comfy on two-wheels and you feel that you can't find anybody you trust enough to form a sidecar team then Quad bikes and maybe even quad bike racing could be your thing!
Quad bike racing is four-wheeled motocross fun and is just as fast and exciting as the two wheeled dirt bike equivalent.
You can start quad bike racing from the age of six on automatic quad bikes and, just like the solos, continue through the youth divisions into the adult ranks. There's a fully-fledged British championship and a dedicated association - the QRA - that promotes quad bike racing and increasing numbers of 'traditional' motocross clubs now accommodate classes for the four-wheeled racer quad bike.
The UK's youth quad bike racing scene is booming with more and more youngsters taking to the four wheeled quad bikes and putting on a great display of healthy competition with cracking racing to boot .
Now, more than ever before, the younger racers are enjoying almost year-round quad bike racing and with the youth ranks expanding, so too are the number of clubs who cater for them.
Organisers are putting on both fun and competitive events, with enduro and quadcross style meetings for automatic and manually geared quad bikes with classes for all age groups.
Quad racing/riding is done on any terrain, which is very apt as the Quad Bike is a derivative of the original ATV ‘All Terrain Vehicle’ which had only three wheels and was affectionately known as the ‘Trike’. But those who used to race the trike had some other choice names for them which are not printable!!
The Trike’s shortfalls as a stable ride probably played a major role in the development of the more stable Quad Bike in America. The first being a conversion of a trike into the four wheeled Quad Bike by welding a subframe onto the front of the trike’s forks and the removal of the lone front wheel and the hanging A Arms, Steering Column, Track Rods, Hubs and a Pair of wheels on to the machine to create it.
Quad Bike racing is done in many disciplines, Moto Cross, Desert and Beach Racing (Oval and Endurace), Speedway, Grass Track, Super Moto (which is like Motocross/Scrambling but not quite so challenging), Ice Speedway, Road Racing, Enduros, Hill Climbs, Drag/Sprint, well the list for these versatile Quad Bike machines is endless as they can literally conquer anything with very few set-up changes to be made in between events.
Come On - Have A GO!!
Quad Bike racing is for ANYBODY with a bit of co-ordination. Quad Bikes are stable at low speed, and once the confidence and ability develops are stable at high speed although as is common with most sports, the element so often called "Driver/Rider/Pilot Error" can still play its hand and you can get spat off! It is considerably well supported by a successful female contingent. To find ladies on Quad Bikes beating the male competitors is not uncommon. The sports champions in the last eight years have ranged from 16 to 56 years of age and older competitors are winning events up and down the country and abroad throughout the year.
